Series 7: Articles on Russian Orthodox nuns

 Series
Identifier: Accession 2007-07

Scope and Contents

The records in this file contains articles from periodicals, dictionaries, encyclopedia, newspapers and chapters of books. In a couple of cases whole books have been photocopied. These documents focus on the Russian Orthodox Nuns imprisoned under communism. They come from a variety of disciplines: History, Religion, Sociology, etc. Some of the articles are strictly from a political or secular perspective and are not favorable toward monasticism. The documents are in several languages: English, French, German, Russian, etc. It is difficulty to establish a time frame for these documents. However, the bulk of these documents deal with the period between 1949 – 1989. There are some first hand testimonials but not many. Some of the files are arranged under the name of a monastery, e.g. Lessna, Puikhitsa, Optima, etc.
